I recently rented1 a Tesla Model 3 Long Range in Poland and wanted to share my experience of using it as my only car for two months. I tested the Tesla Model 3 Highland edition, produced in late 2024. My overall impression: the Tesla Model 3 is an awesome vehicle but is severely constrained to being a commuter car due to the lack of Superchargers.
The Tesla Model 3 Highland edition left me impressed with its excellent ride, fun acceleration, and remarkably quiet interior. It’s one of the quietest cars I have driven in recent memory. Despite the lack of Apple CarPlay, Tesla’s software far surpasses any other car system. It’s fast, slick and delivers an Apple-like experiences. An example is the Auto Shift, which intelligently guesses forward or reverse based on my surroundings and the manoeuvre I’m making, working almost seamlessly.
The single biggest drawback is the lack of Superchargers, making long trips across Poland stressful due to range anxiety. I tested local providers like Greenway and Orlen, but their chargers are expensive, often broken, and plagued by poor UX. The seamless plug-and-charge experience Tesla offers is simply unmatched, and without it, the Model 3 remains limited to short-distance commuting.
I don’t believe local charging providers have the talent or incentives to close that gap—it’s either Superchargers or nothing.
For a Tesla to become a viable, primary vehicle in Poland, the company needs to amp up its Supercharger coverage. I asked ChatGPT to estimate how many stations Tesla would need to install to cover major roads and motorways in the country. ChatGPT’s estimate is that it would require 44 Supercharger stations, costing €4.4 to €6.6 million. This small investment could transform Tesla from a premium commuter car to the best all-around vehicle to own.
I also considered the break-even point for this investment. How many additional sales would it take to cover the cost? I asked ChatGPT to estimate that too, and I was surprised to learn that generating €8 million in profit would require Tesla to sell only around 800 additional cars. Could eliminating range anxiety across the country drive 800 additional Tesla sales? Absolutely. I think this would be the best move for Tesla Poland in 2025, nicely coinciding with the Tesla Model Y release.
As for myself, I’m 50/50 about getting the new Model Y because I don’t want just a commuter car. If Tesla announced plans to expand its Supercharger network, I’d order the Launch edition Model Y today.
